London Southend airport will welcome new flights to Milan Bergamo this spring.

The six-times-weekly Aeroitalia service will launch on 25 March, with fares starting from €79.99 one-way.

Flights will operate on weekdays and Sundays, departing Milan Bergamo at 0900, arriving into London Southend at 0945, before returning at 1045 and landing back into Milan at 1330.

In a press release Southend airport also noted that there will be “more routes to follow”, without giving any further details.

Aeroitalia has previously served London’s Heathrow airport from both Milan Bergamo and Florence, but does not currently operate either of these routes.

The carrier’s route network comprises mainly domestic routes, although it does serve several international destinations including Barcelona and Bucharest.

Milan Bergamo’s other UK connections include easyJet flights from Gatwick, and Ryanair services from Belfast International, Birmingham, Bristol, East Midlands, Edinburgh, Liverpool, London Stansted, Manchester and Newcastle.

Commenting on the news Gaetano Intrieri, CEO of Aeroitalia, said:

“This initiative is the result of hard work, dedication and commitment from the entire Aeroitalia team.

“We are determined to continue to improve and expand our operations to always offer you high-quality services.

“We are confident that this new route will become a bridge between cultures, connecting our beautiful Italian cities with the vibrant energy of London.”

Fellow Italian airline ITA Airways has recently expanded its London City-Milan Linate route, adding frequencies and rostering its newest A220 aircraft onto the route.
