Virgin Hotels has opened its second Scottish property, located on the banks of Glasgow’s River Clyde.

Situated on Clydebank on Clyde Street, the 240-room hotel has drawn inspiration from the city’s ties to the shipbuilding industry, with nautical elements included in the decor, while walls feature bespoke artwork by local Scottish illustrators, painters and photographers.

Rooms (or ‘Chambers’) feature wood-sliding doors to separate the sleep and relaxation lounge from the dressing area, a “patented ergonomically designed bed with a channel-tufted headboard” and a standalone vanity unit with a mounted illuminated mirror. Further amenities include a red SMEG mini fridge stocked with local products, an HDTV, a yoga mat.

F&B venues include Virgin Hotels’ signature Commons Club restaurant bar, which offers a contemporary menu, signature cocktails and an “impressive range of Scottish whiskies, liquors, beer and wine”. The mezzanine level features all-day dining and entertainment space, Highyard, which has a terrace overlooking the River Clyde. The terrace is complete with two living walls, and a retractable roof for the winter season or rainy weather.

Guests can benefit from 25 per cent off the total food bill at both dining spaces until 30 September, 2023, and Virgin Red and Virgin Hotels’ The Know members can link their profiles to directly earn Virgin Points when booking a stay at one of the hotels – including this Glasgow property.

The hotel will welcome two additional F&B spaces next year: Funny Library Coffee Shop and whisky bar Rocks on Fox Street.

Meeting and events spaces include the Bonnie and Clyde meeting rooms, and the comically named Shag room for more intimate gatherings.

Virgin Hotels Collection CEO James Bermingham, said:

“Today marks a momentous occasion as we proudly unveil our Glasgow location, a remarkable addition to our growing family of hotels. At Virgin Hotels, we are driven by our passion for delivering innovative design and heartfelt service, and our latest opening is no exception. Every detail has been curated to reflect the dynamic and diverse essence of Glasgow, and we hope the property will not only be a home away from home, but a door to the incredible experiences within this exciting city.”

Virgin Hotels Glasgow marks the group’s second destination to open in Europe, following the launch of the property in Edinburgh which opened in March.

The brand opened its first property in Chicago in 2015, followed by hotels in Dallas, Nashville and New Orleans, with Business Traveller reviewing its debut in New York earlier this year.

Virgin Hotels is also set to open properties in Miami and Denver in 2025, as well as launching Virgin Residences.
