Cathay Pacific flight award charts will be updated for redemption tickets issued on or after October 1.

This revision will include increases and decreases in the miles required to redeem flights with Cathay Pacific and its partner airlines.

Most of the changes, however, are negative, with certain awards soon costing more than 40 per cent more than they used to.

The news is particularly bad for passengers flying from/to Hong Kong and destinations in India, Japan, Nepal, and Indonesia.

A one-way business class ticket between Hong Kong and, say, Bali or Tokyo used to cost 25,000 points. These will now go up to 32,000 each way.

Similarly, from/to Hong Kong to Europe, i.e. Heathrow, Frankfurt, Paris, in the business cabin was 65,000 points one-way. This will increase to 84,000 going forward.

Generally speaking, the changes are most dramatic in Cathay’s premium cabins, while standard economy redemptions rates will mostly remain the same or will be lowered.

Oneworld alliance member Cathay Pacific last updated its award charts in 2018.
