Korean Air has taken delivery of its first Airbus A321 neo aircraft, with the carrier offering a fully flat business class seat on a narrowbody aircraft for the first time.
The airline is set to add 30 A321 neos to its fleet by 2027, with plans to operate the aircraft on routes to Southeast Asia, China and Japan.
Features include eight Prestige business class seats in dark grey and gold, which convert into fully flat beds and offer 17-inch IFE screens and a wireless smartphone charger.
The aircraft is also fitted with 174 economy seats, which offer a 13-inch IFE screen, an adjustable headrest and individual coat hook.
The A321 neos feature Airbus’ latest Airspace cabins, with larger overhead bins and toilets equipped with “bright lighting and antibacterial coating”.
From the first half of 2023 Korean Air will also offer paid-for internet access on its neo aircraft.
Commenting on the news Christian Scherer, Airbus chief commercial officer and head of Airbus International, said:
“By adding the A321 neo to its fleet, Korean Air will benefit from enhanced operational efficiency and the highest levels of in-flight comfort.
“With the A321 neo’s per-seat fuel improvements of at least 25 per cent compared with Korean Air’s previous generation same-sized fleet, the airline will reduce its operating costs significantly, as well as emissions at the same time.”
