Norse Atlantic Airways has agreed terms for the sublease of a fifth Boeing 787-8 aircraft.

The Norwegian low-cost carrier did not reveal the airline that will be leasing the aircraft, but delivery is expected before the end of the year with a lease period of 18 months

The airline already has four B787s on lease to Air Europa.

Bjorn Tore Larsen, CEO Norse Atlantic Airways, commented:

“This additional sublease agreement provides a further opportunity to increase total cash profit during the lease period.

“We intend to operate 10 Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft during our summer 2023 season, which will mark a substantial increase compared to our launch phase in 2022.”

The airline has taken delivery of 13 of a total fleet of 15 B787 Dreamliners. The carrier said that all of these are on long-term flexible lease terms agreed during 2021, when “lease rates were at historical low prices”.

This news comes after Norse received authorisation from the US Department of Transport to operate flights between the UK and the US. Last month the airline received an Air Operator Certificate (AOC) and operating licence from the UK Civil Aviation Authority.

Larsen commented:

“We are very thankful for the support that we have received on both sides of the Atlantic throughout our application. This milestone represents a huge step in creating competition in the transatlantic market that will benefit consumers, stimulate business travel and lead to job creation.

“We are pleased that we will continue to deliver on our pledge to democratise transatlantic travel and we look forward expanding our point-to-point route network between London Gatwick and the US as part of our summer 2023 schedule.”
