Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group will open its first hotel in Egypt in 2024, which will be a rebranding of the historic Shepheard Hotel in Cairo.
The luxury hotel group is in the process of renovating the property, which first opened its doors in 1841. Paris-based interior designer Sybille de Margerie will preserve the building’s heritage design while enhancing its facilities and services.
Situated on the eastern shore of The Nile river in Downtown Cairo, the property will comprise 188 rooms and 88 suites – many of these will include balconies with views over the city, river and Gezira island.
Mandarin Oriental Shepheard, Cairo will also offer five restaurants and bars including a rooftop restaurant and a club lounge. There will also be a variety of function spaces such as a rooftop ballroom.
Leisure facilities will include a spa with eight treatment suites, an indoor lap pool, a rooftop swimming pool, a beauty salon, fitness centre and a kid’s club.

Mandarin Hotel Group currently operates 36 hotels and seven residences in 24 countries and territories, with recent additions including the Mandarin Oriental, Shenzhen, and Mandarin Oriental Bosphorus, Istanbul.
The group plans to open a new resort property situated on a cluster of private islands in the Maldives in 2025.
