Recently launched East Coast Mainline rail operator Lumo has launched a new pre-order food and drinks service in partnership Servy, SSP UK and railway catering firm Rail Gourmet.

Customers can order from the Lumo Eats digital menu on the firm’s website, with options including items from SSP brands including The Pasty Shop and Upper Crust. A selection of “renowned high street F&B offerings” will also be available to pre-order.

Hot meals will be transported in “hot-bags” to Lumo trains at London King’s Cross and Edinburgh Waverley stations, from where staff will deliver them to customers in their seats shortly before departure.

Customers must be boarding in either London or Edinburgh to take advantage of the hot meal pre-order service, but other food items including salads, snacks and drinks will also be available for pre-order, and will be served to customers from the onboard trolley during the journey.

Open access operator Lumo currently offers two daily return services between London and Edinburgh via Stevenage, Newcastle and Morpeth, with plans to increase this to five services per day by January.

Commenting on the news Andy Webb, managing director at Rail Gourmet, said;

“We’re delighted to be partnering with Lumo to provide this exciting new service. The new venture will combine the formidable strengths of SSP’s F&B brands with Rail Gourmet’s expertise in rail catering, supported by cutting-edge technology provided by our partner Servy.

“Offering the convenience of ordering freshly-prepared food that’s delivered quickly and directly to your seat; this new service is set to make a real difference to the F&B offer for rail passengers.”
