Breeze Airways has unveiled the first of 80 A220-300 aircraft on order during an event at Airbus’ US Manufacturing Facility in Mobile, Alabama.

The A220-300 is configured in a two-class 126-seat premium cabin layout comprising 36 business and 90 economy seats fitted with in-seat power and USB ports.

The brand-new single-aisle A220s will provide the “widest seats, the largest windows and more overhead stowage space per passenger” according to Airbus. The first A220 is expected to be delivered to Breeze in the coming weeks and will enter service in the second quarter of 2022.

The A220-300 is powered by Pratt and Whitney’s GTF engines, and has a range of up to 6,390 kilometres. It also delivers up to 25 per cent lower fuel burn and CO2 emissions per seat compared to previous generation aircraft, and 50 per cent lower NOx emissions than industry standards.

Additionally, the aircraft noise footprint is reduced by 50 per cent compared to previous generation aircraft.

David Neeleman, Founder and CEO at Breeze Airways, commented:

“We are excited to fly our first Airbus A220 and to grow our fleet in partnership with Pratt & Whitney. At Breeze, we’re working to make flying accessible and ‘seriously nice’ for everyone. With industry-leading fuel efficiency, Pratt & Whitney’s engines will help us fly more passengers, farther, quieter and more sustainably, at lower fares.”

Rick Deurloo, Chief Commercial Officer at Pratt and Whitney, added:

“We are honored that Breeze chose to continue to expand its fleet with GTF-powered aircraft. For decades we’ve worked with David and the airlines he’s founded, and together we’ve helped them grow into successful businesses. We’re looking forward to taking all that experience to help the Breeze team build another winning airline.”

Breeze Airways was founded by Jetblue founder David Neeleman in 2020 and began operations in May this year.
