Scandic Hotels Group is set to open a 451-room property in the Alvstaden area of Gothenburg next year.
Business Traveller first reported on the project in 2017, and more details regarding the hotel have now been released ahead of its opening in the second quarter of 2022.
Scandic Gothenburg Central will be located close to the city’s Central Station, and its design has been inspired by shipping containers, including The Grand Container events space which will be able to hold up to 1,000 guests.
Facilities will include a 14th floor rooftop terrace with views from Alvsborg Bridge to Gamlestaden, featuring what the group says will be the highest garden in the city, with trees being transported in by helicopter.
Meanwhile the hotel’s ground floor features bar and restaurant areas, alongside sofa seating and co-working tables.
Rooms have been inspired by circular design (creating products and services that no longer have a lifecycle with a beginning, a middle and an end), with interiors including recycled materials, and beds and TVs certified by Nordic Ecolabel.
Commenting on the news Kristian Andreasson, District Director for Western and Southern Sweden at Scandic Hotels, said:
“We’re in an interesting position as the hospitality industry is undergoing a significant restart. Scandic Göteborg Central is an extremely important way for Scandic to be involved in developing Gothenburg into the Sweden’s foremost city for meetings, events and sustainable tourism.
“The hotel’s strategic location, just a couple hundred metres from Gothenburg Central Station, and the easy access by road create the right conditions for attracting both domestic and international meeting and event guests going forward.”
