Taking into account the current Covid-19 situation in the United Kingdom (UK), India has decided to suspend all flights originating from the UK to India until December 31, 2020.

Following this, India joins a growing list of countries that have already announced restrictions on travel from the UK over the new coronavirus variant. These countries include France, the Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Belgium, the Irish Republic, Turkey, and Canada.

The suspension will come into effect from December 22, 2020, at 2359 hours. Consequently, flights from India to the UK shall stand temporarily suspended during the above said period, stated the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA), Government of India.

MoCA tweeted, “As a measure of abundant precaution, passengers arriving from the UK in all transit flights (flights that have taken off or flights which are reaching India before December 22 at 2359 hours) should be subject to mandatory RT-PCR test on arrival at the airports concerned.”

India’s civil aviation minister, Hardeep Singh Puri tweeted:
