Some of our readers will be delighted to learn about Easyjet’s return to the Aberdeen-London Gatwick route next year.

A few days ago when we posted news of British Airways returning to the Manchester-Gatwick a couple of readers asked about links to Gatwick from Aberdeen and Newcastle.

British Airways to resume Manchester-Gatwick link

Today Easyjet has confirmed that it will restart the route from May 2 next year.

Readers may remember Easyjet dropped this route two years ago in favour of operating a more lucrative service to Dusseldorf.

As with the new BA service from Manchester, there will be just one daily flight so readers will, if possible, have to use different London airports or take LNER rail in one direction.

Of course there will also be connection possibilities at Gatwick.

Schedules are:

  • departs Aberdeen at 1035, arrives into London Gatwick at 1215 (daily)
  • departs London Gatwick at 0820, arrives into Aberdeen at 1005 (daily except Tuesday)
  • departs London Gatwick at 0825, arrives into Aberdeen at 1005 (Tuesday)

Quoted by eveningexpress.co.uk Ali Gayward, Easyjet’s UK manager said:

“In anticipation that demand for travel will return – and having recently seen signs of growing confidence by our customers in making plans for travel next spring and summer – we continue to strengthen our network in Scotland providing more direct domestic and international connections across the UK and to [mainland] Europe.”

Evening Express reports that Scottish Conservative north-east MSP Liam Kerr had written to Easyjet last February urging them to re-instate the flights, and is quoted as saying “This is a huge boost for Aberdeen airport during a turbulent year for the aviation sector”.
