American Airlines is extending its at-home testing programme to all domestic passengers bound for US destinations with Covid-19 travel restrictions. Offered in partnership with health testing company LetsGetChecked, a PCR test kit costs US$129 and takes about 48 hours on average to receive results.

The service is expected to streamline the travel experience and, where possible, allow travellers to test out of quarantines at their destination.

US cities, states, and territories with domestic travel restrictions include Alaska, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Chicago, Hawaii, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, Rhode Island, and Vermont, according to the airline’s website.

Alison Taylor, chief customer officer at American Airlines, said:

“We’ve made great strides to help open international travel with our testing partners, and we recognise the need for similar domestic travel solutions. As travel requirements continue to quickly evolve, we’re simplifying the research and Covid-19 testing fulfillment process for an overall more seamless travel experience.”

Peter Foley, CEO at LetsGetChecked, added:

“We are extremely proud of our partnership with American Airlines and the opportunity to support their proactive safety measures. Our at-home Covid-19 test exemplifies our mission to empower people to take an active role in their health whilst also allowing for a safe return to travel during this challenging time.”

American Airlines said it will continue to work with LetsGetChecked to expand its at-home testing service as restrictions evolve.
