Further strengthening measures to combat the Covid-19 crisis in the country, Indian railways has announced the shutdown of all passenger train services including premium trains, mail/express trains, passenger trains, suburban trains, Kolkata metro rail and Konkan Railways until March 31, 2020.

In line with this decision, the suburban network of the Central Railway (CR) and the Western Railway (WR) – two of the 18 zones of Indian Railways – remain closed.

This means for the first time in history, Mumbai’s local train network has come to a halt.

Meanwhile, the movement of goods trains will continue to ensure an adequate supply of necessary products in different parts of the country.

As per Indian Railways’ official statement, a full refund will be available for cancelled trains until June 21, 2020, to ensure a hassle-free procedure for passengers.

Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has also suspended services but will be running a few buses for the essential commute.
