India is all set to welcome the United States President, Donald Trump today.
Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India tweeted:
President Trump along with his family and high-level delegation has arrived at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad. His maiden official trip to India spans across 36-hours and will feature visits to Ahmedabad, Agra and New Delhi.
One of the key highlights of the trip is the ‘Namaste Trump’ event to be held at Motera Stadium in Ahmedabad, with a capacity to host up to 110,000 spectators. The grand affair draws parallel with the Howdy Modi gathering that took place in Houston last year in honour of Narendra Modi.
The POTUS will address a mammoth of crowd along with PM Modi. Cultural programmes showcasing India’s rich history and heritage have been organised.
Before that, President Trump will make a pitstop at Sabarmati Ashram, which was one of the many residences of Mahatma Gandhi.
Hopes were high for the signing of an Indo-US trade deal between the two global leaders, however US has backed off from it at last minute before Trump’s visit. The two are also expected to discuss the subject of religious freedom amidst the ongoing Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC) controversy.
Post the Ahmedabad schedule, the President will head to Agra to visit Taj Mahal. Additionally, First Lady of the United States, Melania Trump will attend a school event in New Delhi. If industry reports are to believed, Chief Minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal and Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia will most likely not be a part of her visit to the capital city.
