Air France will start adding more spacious luggage compartments to its A320 fleet next year.

The bins, which are by French manufacturer Safran, offer 60 per cent more storage capacity than those currently available.

They will also have a lower shelf height for easier loading.

Air France plans to roll out 1,342 new luggage compartments across its 40 A320s and 11 A321s between September 2020 and September 2022.

No other airline currently has the product on-board.

“Air France will be the first airline to offer these innovative luggage compartments”, said Catherine Villar, SVP Customer Experience Air France.

“They will enable us to meet the high expectations of our customers wishing to travel with cabin bags only to save time during their trip. Boarding will be smoother and faster, both for them and for our crews. This represents a significant improvement in comfort and operational efficiency.”
