Members of Virgin Australia’s Velocity Frequent Flyer programme can earn double the usual Velocity Points from bookings made by December 17, applicable for travel in the next 12 months.

Before you go booking your flights though, it’s worth noting that members need to activate the double points offer first. Travellers can earn double points on flights operated by Virgin Australia – codeshare routes are not eligible – for travel before December 5 next year.

The offer comes as Virgin Australia boosts its services for the holiday season, during which the carrier is adding more than 1,000 flights to its schedule.

Most of these are on domestic routes – more than 850 – to destinations including Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast and Tasmania, though about 45,000 additional seats have also been added to international destinations such as New Zealand and Fiji.

December also sees the launch of the airline’s seasonal Perth-Gold Coast service, which takes off on Thursday and will operate until January 26 next year.

Virgin Australia also launched new flights between Auckland and Newcastle last month, which will continue over the southern summer season until February 17, 2019.
