Emirates has launched a new codeshare agreement with Italian state-owned rail operator Trenitalia, enabling passengers to book flights and rail travel in one combined ticket.

Customers can now book tickets connecting onto rail services departing Emirates’ Italian gateways of Bologna, Milan, Rome and Venice, onto a total of 27 rail stations across Italy, including Bari, Bologna, Milan, Napoli, Padova, Rome, Torino, Venice and Verona – the full list can be seen below.

Under the agreement, Trenitalia tickets will be booked “in the cabin class that matches the class of travel on the Emirates ticket”, with Executive, Business, Premium and Standard classes available depending on train type.

Those travelling in Emirates first class / Trenitalia Executive Class will be able access the lounges of each partner, where available.

E-tickets issued by Emirates will assign passengers a seat and car number for their rail journey, and customers will not need to exchange their boarding pass for a separate rail ticket.

Note that Emirates’ baggage allowances will apply for the connecting train journeys – customers will need to collect their checked bags from the airport arrivals hall, and take them to the rail station.

Commenting on the news Hubert Frach, Emirates’ Divisional Senior Vice President, Commercial Operations, West, said:

“This codeshare agreement with Trenitalia opens up new possibilities for our customers and complements our current services to Bologna, Milan, Rome and Venice. With Trenitalia, travelling to the Far East from Foggia, or to Padova from Sydney has never been easier.

“Emirates already flies more than 1.6 million passengers to and from Italy every year. With this codeshare agreement, we’re connecting Italian regions to our global network, significantly boosting the Italian tourism industry.”
