New York's JFK airport is finally set to gain an on-site hotel, with the approval for a 505-room property located within the facility’s iconic TWA Flight Centre building.
TWA Flight Centre Hotel at JFK International Airport is set to open in 2018, and will feature 40,000 square feet of meeting space, as well as restaurants, a spa, an observation deck, and a “micro grid energy management system”, allowing the complex to generate its own power.
The TWA Flight Centre- originally opened in 1962 and now integrated within Jet Blue’s Terminal 5 at the airport – was designed by Finnish American architect Eero Saarinen, and last served as a flight terminal over a decade ago.
Since then the building has benefited from a $20 million renovation project, and has been used for events including the 50th anniversary of the Beatles’ first visit to the US in 1964.
The property will be directly connected to T5, making it the first on site hotel at New York’s JFK, and will be leased by Flight Center Hotel LLC, a partnership between MCR Development and Jet Blue.
