American Airlines launches Chicago-Beijing service with four times a week flights

11 May 2010
Congestion at Beijing Capital International Airport has prompted American Airlines to scale down its original plan to fly non stop daily between Chicago and Beijing to four times weekly, starting May 25, 2010. Earlier, the carrier postponed its inaugural flight on April 26 to May 4, then to May 25 (see news) as it was not satisfied with the arrival and departure slots issued by Chinese aviation officials. The four times weekly frequency is only temporary, and the carrier expects to fly daily between the two cities from July 3. Craig Keeger, American’s senior vice-president – international, said they recognised that Beijing Capital was a “slot constrained airport”. They would, however, continue to work with airport authorities to secure more convenient time for their customers. Starting from May 25, on Friday and Sunday, the flight departs Chicago at 8.30pm and arrives in Beijing at 11pm the next day (local time). On Tuesday and Thursday, it leaves Beijing at 9.30pm and arrives in Chicago at 11.59pm the next day (local time). From May 27, the flight departs Beijing on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday at 7.59am and arrives in Chicago at 7.49am the same day (local time). On Tuesday, it leaves Beijing at 6.59am and arrives in Chicago at 6.49am the same day (local time). For more, visit www.aa.com Margie T Logarta
