The Amari Johor Bahru has opened in Malaysia’s southern gateway capital of Johor state, marking the debut of Onyx Hospitality Group to the Southeast Asian country.
Much like the city it resides in, the new property is geared towards connectivity across the country’s nearby border with Singapore. Along with being located near to the city’s Customs, Immigration and Quarantine Complex, the new Amari will also be within reach of the upcoming MRT rail system linking Singapore with Johor Bahru. Senai International Airport is about 30 minutes away by car, while Singapore’s Changi Airport is about 80 minutes from the hotel.
“Amari Johor Bahru has been designed in response to market demands and trends, as tourism in Johor Bahru is currently undergoing a major transformation,” said Onyx’s CEO, Douglas Martell. “This opening will pave the way for the upcoming OZO Medini and Shama Medini at the UM Medini City Lakeside Complex in the nearby Iskandar area, also developed in partnership with UMLand.”
Key features of the new property include spa-inspired bathrooms within the guestrooms along with six deluxe pool access rooms with private terraces – a feature the hotel claims to be the first of its kind for a downtown hotel in the city. Beyond the rooms, a dedicated spa, a market-style all-day restaurant, a café and an outdoor poolside bar make up the leisure facilities. Events facilities, meanwhile, comprise a ballroom, an outdoor terrace as well as multi-functional rooms with names ranging from “The Library” to the “Idea Room”.
Overall, the Amari Johor Bahru will feature 242 guest rooms.
