This week saw the
opening of the Intercontinental Chicago O’Hare, located close to the city’s
airport.
The 556-room
hotel is situated opposite the Donald E. Stephens Convention Centre, around
five minutes drive from the airport, with a 24-hour complimentary shuttle
service available for guests.
Features include marble
bathrooms, oversized workdesks and high-speed internet access, with access to
the Club Intercontinental Lounge available for an additional charge. There
is nearly 5,000 sqm of meeting space, as well as three restaurants, and a “flight
centre”, where guests can check the real-time status of their flights and take
advantage of online check-in.
Interestingly
nearly 70 per cent of the hotel’s front desk and concierge staff are artists or
art students, and the property has an art gallery, with rotating collections from
local and international artists, as well as sculpture, music and photography exhibits
throughout the building. Daily curator-led champagne tours of the hotel’s artwork
are available, and there is a 275-seater entertainment venue on site for
musical and comedy acts.
