Leisure carrier Monarch Airlines has doubled its hand luggage allowance for scheduled flights to two items.
From November 1 passengers can carry up to two pieces on board, such as a cabin bag and a handbag or laptop bag.
However, the total size of the two combined items has been reduced and must not exceed 56cm x 40cm x 25cm (formerly 56cm x 45cm x 25cm) and a weight of 10kg, with new size gauges due to be installed at airports.
Once on board, only one of these items may be placed in the overhead locker, while the other item must be placed under the seat in front.
These new regulations are in place for all Monarch scheduled flights except those departing London Luton airport, where the operator regulations only allow one item of hand baggage measuring 56cm x 40cm x 25cm to be carried onboard.
The hand baggage allowance for charter flights (flight numbers MON) remains unchanged at 5kg, and the dimensions should not exceed 56cm x 40cm x 25cm.
Kevin George, managing director of Monarch Airlines, said: “Our passengers have told us how important it is for them to be allowed two items and, working with our airport partners, we have been able to change our policy to suit them.”
