Kingfisher drops London-Bangalore route

Kingfisher Airlines is to cease its London Heathrow to Bangalore route from this September, but has announced plans to start flights from Delhi to London.

The Indian carrier says that “with a view to ensuring optimal and efficient utilization of its fleet and looking at loads and yields during the period September to November 2009”, it has decided to suspend the Heathrow-Bangalore route from September 15, a little over a year after the route was inaugurated (click here to read our review from the inaugural flight).

The announcement is part of Kingfisher’s “roadmap” for its next phase of international routes. The carrier is to launch two new routes from Mumbai to Singapore and Hong Kong this September (using new Airbus A330-200 aircraft), and says it is also planning six further international services from both Mumbai and Delhi.

The most interesting of these to UK travellers will be the proposed new flights from London to Delhi. Kingfisher says it has applied to the Ministry of Civil Aviation to commence operations on this route, and that launch dates will be announced “once the requisite regulatory approvals are in place”. This service will also be plied with A330-200 aircraft.

Other planned routes include flights to Bangkok and Dubai from both Delhi and Mumbai, as well as a service from Colombo to Mumbai.
