Hong Kong Airlines The carrier is believed to be one of the undisclosed airlines to have placed an order for Boeing's next-generation B747-8 Intercontinental aircraft at this week's Paris Air Show.
According to reports by respected aviation websites flightglobal.com and aviationweek.com, Hong Kong Airlines has ordered 15 B747-8 aircraft. This would make it the second Asian carrier to order the next-generation jumbo, following Korean Air's order for five aircraft.
Yesterday Boeing confirmed “orders and commitments” for 17 of the next-generation B747-8, but has not yet revealed which carriers have purchased the aircraft.
Lufthansa is the commercial launch customer for the Boeing jumbo passenger version, although the first B747-8 Intercontinental will actually be delivered to a VIP customer.
As reported by Business Traveller's Asia-Pacific edition earlier this month (see online news June 14), Hong Kong Airlines is also believed to be planning to announce an order for A380 aircraft at the Paris Air Show.
