Fairmont Taiyuan is scheduled to open in the capital of Shanxi Province in northern China in 2014 in anticipation of increased demand from both leisure and business travellers once the construction of the nearby convention and exhibition facilities and sports centre is completed.
The hotel is part of the Sumeru project, a mixed-use development featuring luxury residential accommodations, a private club and retail facilities.
Situated along the Fen River within walking distance of the new central business district in Taiyuan, the hotel will feature 330 guestrooms and suites occupying the upper floors of the tower that anchors the development. It will also boast a selection of lounges and restaurants, the hotel chain's signature Willow Steam Spa, fitness and pool facilities, as well as a total of 3,500sqm function space that includes a 1,500sqm ballroom.
The Taiyuan property is the latest to be added in the chain's portfolio in the region, which includes Fairmont Beijing, Fairmont Nanjing (to open in 2012), Fairmont Peace Hotel in Shanghai, Fairmont Yangcheng Lake in Kunshan, Fairmont Jakarta in Indonesia (2014), Fairmont Makati in the Philippines (2012) and Fairmont Singapore.
