Easyjet launches new Manchester routes

Low-cost carrier Easyjet is to expand its offering from Manchester airport this winter, competing with flag carriers KLM and Lufthansa, as well as Swedish regional operator City Airline.

Twice-daily flights to Amsterdam will commence on November 1, and will see Easyjet challenge KLM on the route. The Dutch carrier, which uses its five-times daily flights to feed into its long-haul services from Schiphol, has had a monopoly on the route since Bmibaby drops its flights earlier this year.

From November 26 Easyjet will also serve Hamburg daily (six-times weekly from December 13) from Manchester, competing with the three-times daily service operated by Lufthansa Cityline, a subsidiary of Lufthansa. Then from December 10 Easyjet will fly three-times weekly between Manchester and Gothenburg, challenging regional Swedish carrier City Airline.

Easyjet first started flying from Manchester in 2008, and the new flights mean the carrier now offers 22 routes from the northern airport.

Lead-in fares on all three routes start from £27.99 one-way (including taxes), and are on sale from today.
