Crowne Plaza to debut in Bangkok

4 Oct 2010 by AndrewGough

Intercontinental Hotels Group (IHG) has announced it is to rebrand the Pan Pacific Bangkok as a Crowne Plaza, marking the brand's first foray into the Thai market.

To be renamed the Crowne Plaza Bangkok Lumpini Park, the 241-room property is due to come online in its new guise from January 1 next year, and will be IHG’s fifth hotel in Bangkok.

Jan Smits, managing director of IHG Asia Australasia, said the hotel’s location would provide a platform from which to build the Crowne Plaza brand in Thailand.

The Pan Pacific Bangkok, as it is now, takes up floors 21 to 32 of the Ramaland, a mixed-use development close to the Siam Paragon Mall in Bangkok’s city centre.

Smits said that by next year, IHG would have four brands operating in Thailand - InterContinental, Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express.

“This puts us on a great path to grow our pipeline in Thailand, and we are looking to double our presence in this market over the next few years,” Smits said.
