BA to trial new semi-flex fare

11 Sep 2013 by GrahamSmith

BA has announced the trial of a new semi-flex fare between London and eight short-haul destinations.

The new fare offers passengers a middle ground between booking a standard ticket and a fully-flex one.

It is available on flights from London to Amsterdam, Stockholm, Barcelona, Paris (Charles de Gaulle and Orly), Rome, Rotterdam, Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Robin Glover-Faure, BA's head of short-haul, said: "We're introducing a new fare type, the semi-flex ticket, which gives travellers a range of new options, including the opportunity to change their ticket on the day of departure for no extra fee."

The semi-flex fare will allow passengers benefits of a standard fare including the same baggage allowance and food and drinks onboard the flight.

Other benefits include:

  • Free booking changes on the day of departure from the same airport to the same destination. There will be no change or service fees and passengers won't have to pay the difference between the cost of their original ticket and the price available on the day
  • If a passenger needs to make a change to the booking the day before they travel, they will not incur a change fee, just any fare differences
  • The ability to select a seat for free two days prior to travel, rather than 24 hours as with a standard fare
  • Passengers will also be able to mix and match between the standard, semi-flex and fully-flex fare classes. For example, a customer travelling for a meeting in Edinburgh may want a standard ticket from London as they know the start time to a meeting, but a semi-flex back in case it finishes earlier than planned.

Earlier today, BA announced it is extending its hand baggage only fares to passengers at Heathrow and London City airports (see news, September 11).
