Austrian Airlines is to launch a new non-stop route between Vienna and Hong Kong from September 5.
The five-times weekly service will depart Vienna daily except Thursday and Sunday, and from Hong Kong daily except Monday and Friday – the full schedules are shown below.
The new route will be served with B777 aircraft, and will add to the carrier’s existing flights to Beijing, as well as the forthcoming Shanghai service (see news October 2, 2015).
Austrian says it estimates that around two thirds of passengers on the Hong Kong route will be transfer traffic at its Vienna hub, “especially in the direction of Western and Eastern Europe”.
The carrier has previously offered flights to Hong Kong as far back as 1999, with a Vienna-Bangkok-Hong Kong service operated by the now defunct subsidiary Lauda Air.
