5 Aug 2015 by BusinessTraveller

Air Canada has taken delivery of its first Boeing B787-9 aircraft, adding to its existing fleet of eight B787-8s.

The flag carrier will roster the new aircraft onto its four times-weekly Toronto-Delhi service from November 1, followed by its Dubai service from November 3 (see news, December 2014).

Ahead of this passengers will have the chance to experience the aircraft on selected flights between Toronto and Vancouver during August, and on international routes from Toronto to Munich and Milan during September and October.

Air Canada's larger version of the Boeing Dreamliner seats a total of 298 passengers – 30 in business class, 21 in premium economy, and 247 in economy.

This compares to a capacity of 251 passengers on the carrier’s B787-8 aircraft – 20 in business class, 21 in premium economy, and 210 in economy.

The airline has a total of 29 B787-9s on order, for delivery up to 2019.
