Starwood is to open the first property under its eco-friendly, extended stay Element brand in Detroit.
The 110-room property will be housed within the Metropolitan Building in the city’s central business district, and will feature rooms with kitchens and “spa-inspired bathrooms”, an indoor swimming pool and fitness centre, 2,000 square feet of meeting space, and an outdoor patio on the 11th floor rooftop.
Guests at Element Detroit at the Metropolitan Building will enjoy free wifi, and complimentary breakfast and evening wine receptions.
The Metropolitan Building originally opened in 1925 as a jewellery emporium, and the new development will see the property’s neo Gothic exterior restored, with parts of the building’s ornate lobby and mezzanine floor preserved.
There are currently 22 Element hotels in operation – 19 in North America, two in Europe (Amsterdam and Frankfurt) and one in Asia-Pacific (Suzhou).
Further properties are due to open by the end of 2017 in locations including Austin, Dallas, Fort Lauderdale, Calgary, Dar es Salaam, Heibei (China), and London's Tobacco Dock.
