Jetstar connects Singapore and Shantou in Guangzhou

Low-cost carrier Jetstar is launching direct services between Singapore and Shantou in China's Guangdong province from February 2, 2010. It will be the first foreign carrier to operate flights into Shantou Waisha Airport.

The announcement follows the start up of the four-times-weekly Singapore-Haikou service on Wednesday, December 16.

Flight 3K 823 will depart from Singapore at 0600, arriving in Shantou at 1000. Flight 3K 824 will then leave at 1040, landing in Singapore at 1440. An Airbus A320 aircraft will be used on the route.

From February 1 to March 11, 2010, the flights operate on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. From March 13, 2010 onwards, the flights operate on Tuesday, Wednesdays and Saturdays. An additional Monday service applies to February 15, 2010 only.

Shantou, besides being a communications and shipping hub, has strong links with the Teochew community in Singapore.
