Travellers from Asia can enjoy substantial savings on their IDD and roaming costs when visiting the UK with the new VisitBritain international SIM card.
VisitBritain has partnered with global SIM card provider GO-SIM to offer the branded pre-paid call card.
As a special offer to travellers from China, Hongkong, Japan, Korea and Macau, the VisitBritain office in Hongkong is selling the global SIM card in its online shop for HK$318 (£25).
The Starter Pack from the VisitBritain Hongkong website includes one SIM card pre-loaded with £25 airtime, which means the fee for the SIM card itself has been waived. This is a better deal than the rates on Go-Sim’s website, which offers VisitBritain International SIM Card packages at £21.95 and £31.95 with free airtime of £5 and £15 respectively.
The SIM card is pre-activated and ready to use by simply replacing your existing SIM with the VisitBritain SIM. Note that travellers must have an unlocked compatible GSM handset. With calls starting from 24p a minute, Visit Britain SMS card claims to save users up to 85 percent of IDD calls in 175 countries worldwide. Unlike other pre-paid SIM products, both the SIM and unused airtime have no expiration date.
Incoming calls to the UK (and to 75 other countries) are completely free, so travellers won’t be charged for receiving a call or a text message. There are no hidden charges, no contract, no daily usage fee and there is not even a call connection charge.
If you need to top up, airtime can be purchased at www.gosim.com/visitbritain
A shipping charge of HK$30 (£2.33) applies. Delivery will take three working days in Hongkong and seven to 10 days in China, Japan, Korea and Macau.
