New Hilton in Melbourne on track

20 Feb 2009

Construction of the Hilton Melbourne South Wharf is on track to open this April, according to general manager Michael Bourne during previews of the property this week.

The 396-room property is scheduled to open by April 20 and installation of furnishings and fittings is currently underway.

Located on the banks of the city's Yarra River, the new Hilton adjoins the new Melbourne Conference and Exhibition Centre, which is also putting the finishing touches to its construction and will open later this year.

Bourne said: “When the Hilton Melbourne South Wharf opens its doors, it will be part of an exciting new area, offering dining, retail, commercial and business events opportunities.”

Bourne refused to be drawn on exact room rates at the current time, but said that the hotel would operate dynamic band pricing, reflecting fluctuations in demand.

Rooms will come in four categories; standard, deluxe, executive and suites. Standard guest rooms are 38sqm, with suites offering up to 85sqm in space.

The hotel is around half an hour from Melbourne’s Tullamarine International Airport.

The hotel’s location next to the conference centre and within walking distance of the city’s Central Business District positions it for business and meetings visitors.
