3 Oct 2014 by GrahamSmith

Virgin Atlantic has teamed up with chef Lorraine Pascale to serve signature dishes to its Upper Class passengers.

The television presenter, who has spent the last six months working with Virgin's in-flight catering department, has also created a selection of children's meals to be served in every cabin.

The new dishes will be showcased on Virgin's inaugural B787-9 flight to Atlanta on October 23. They will then be added to services departing the UK from October 28.

Pascale said: "Food and travel have always been my great passions so working with Virgin Atlantic on their in-flight menus was the perfect opportunity to combine my two loves.

"The aim was to create healthy and sophisticated menus for the Upper Class customers and wholesome, delicious and fun meals for the children's offering."

Dishes for Upper Class passengers include Thai beef salad with roasted pine nuts and chilli dressing, or a warm salmon and lentils with chorizo dish with asparagus and balsamic dressing.

The children's meals will include a mac 'n' cheese dish with pancetta pieces; crispy tender chicken strips with potato wedges and crushed peas; sweet and sour pork balls with sunshine rice; and a Mum's chilli con carne with calypso rice.

Reuben Arnold, Virgin Atlantic's brand and customer engagement director, said: "Lorraine is the biggest-ever debut cooking writer in Britain and to be collaborating with her to create these dishes has been really inspiring.

"Dishes such as 'Mum's chilli con carne with calypso rice' will hopefully get our younger passengers very excited to be eating meals with a home-cooked feel."

Virgin's inaugural route for its B787-9 Dreamliner will be between London Heathrow and Boston, which will launch on October 28 (see news, June 22)
