Garuda Indonesia is to formally enter the Skyteam alliance in spring 2014.
The carrier will become Skyteam's second member in south-east Asia, after Vietnam Airlines, when it joins on March 5.
Garuda currently flies to six Skyteam hubs — Seoul, Guangzhou, Beijing, Shanghai, Taipei and Amsterdam. It is also due to start flights from Gatwick to Jakarta in May 2014 (see news, October 29).
Michael Wisbrun, Skyteam's managing director, said: "Garuda is on target to meet all the membership criteria required by Skyteam, including implementing a new IT platform and customer-focused initiatives."
Garuda CEO Emirsyah Satar added: "Joining Skyteam marks another significant milestone in the company's development, as we are now entering the stage of being a global player.
"This is part of our strategy to extend our network worldwide while at the same time improving our service."
