Qantas to start Trans-Atlantic

I was intrigued when reading this possibility but have some questions. Why wouldn’t QF fly from Perth to LHR via DXB with their revenue partner on the Kangaroo route as opposed to SIN? If they do transit the route through SIN, could this then be a codeshare with their OW partner BA. For sure, it would make sense for the Trans Atlantic portion to be code shared with BA and AA or will it be operated in competition to them if code shared with EK. It would be obvious the flight from ORD top SYD would be code shared with AA at least as ORD is one of their largest hubs. It really shows the melding of members of an alliance with others not in the alliance, like Air Berlin (OW) and Alitalia (ST) with Etihad and plenty of others I am sure. Makes it interesting.

Nice to see QF back to round the world. I remember they used to fly from the UK to the Bahamas and even into Acapulco on their way back to OZ.

I think this has to do with backlash from certain quarters to Qantas cutting the Australia – Singapore – London services.

If the above is true, Qantas customers will be able to fly into Singapore from Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne using existing services and then connect to the new Qantas service from Singapore to London – given an alternative to the Australia – Dubai – London option under the QF/EK JV.

As for the Chicago tag on – will be interesting to see what transpires re codeshares. Watch this space I guess…

Yep, it’s particularly sad that a plain one liner (which I should have been able to write several weeks ago, in a serious context) didn’t need any embellishment or over egging to be an obvious April Fool.

i have to give you a big hi-five on this one. You made it seem very convincing..

But i’ve got to say i started raising my left eyebrow the moment you mentioned Chicago which is a rather premium route for BA & AA and those two would rather die than compete with QF.

Then came SIN and that’s where i started laughing thinking ‘don’t disappoint me. Keep on’.
The codeshare with EK part threw me apart. Had you instead mentioned Qatar for being in Oneworld, i would have raised my right eyebrow too (pulling me in), then gone through the whole text again to look for mistakes i may have missed.

That said, you did good.

There was a report on a german website (aero) saying that AirFrance-KLM was pursuing a codeshare partnershit on some routes with Etihad. Funny thing is that the website hasn’t owned up to this being a April Fools prank.

Then again AirFrance-KLM (and its partner Delta) has been next to LH the biggest opposer of the Gulf carriers.

Actually the most plausible of all your schemes is QF restarting LHR SIN with an EK codeshare. QF and EK already have a mini hub at SIN with flights to Australian and New Zealand ports.

AIRFRANCE-KLM this month (July 2015) expands travel options for flights to Australia, as both places their AF and KL coded flight numbers on DELTA’s Los Angeles – Sydney route. DELTA currently operates this route with Boeing 777-200LR aircraft.

DL016/AF3592/KL6050 SYD1105 – 0800LAX 77L D

Prior to this new codeshare service, AIRFRANCE provides service to Australia through codesharing with ETIHAD via Abu Dhabi, China Southern via Guangzhou. KLM provides Australia service through ETIHAD via Abu Dhabi, China Southern via Kuala Lumpur, Garuda Indonesia via Jakarta, Malaysia Airlines via Kuala Lumpur.
