Travellers flying out of Dubai International’s (DXB) Terminal 3 can now have meals delivered directly to their gates through a new initiative developed by the airport with food-delivery service Deliveroo.

The new DeliverooDXB concept – the Gulf’s first airport delivery service – enables travellers to order food from outlets at the airport using the delivery company’s app, website, or a quick link on DXB’s free wifi service, “Wow-Fi”. According to operator Dubai Airports, the new service will see food brought to travellers’ gates “within minutes of ordering”.

“DeliverooDXB is a truly ground-breaking service that brings an extra level of convenience to our customers,” said Eugene Barry, executive vice president of Dubai Airports’ commercial and communications group. “Our mission to completely reinvent the airport experience is rooted in implementing innovative concepts, as demonstrated by this partnership with the world’s best food delivery brand.”

The service is currently limited to travellers departing from A-Gates in the airport’s Terminal 3 building, with more than 10 listed F&B outlets from which to order, among them Costa, Le Pain Quotidien and McDonald’s. Dubai Airports will consider rolling-out the service to additional concourses and adding more outlets after a six-month trial of the service at Terminal 3.

Meanwhile, Deliveroo is looking to expand the service to other international hubs around the world, though it has not stated where it is looking at this time.

“Deliveroo’s mission is to provide the best food delivery experience in the world, and there is no reason why that should be limited to the home or office,” said Deliveroo’s general manager, GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council). “With our riders now delivering to the gate, there is no reason to miss breakfast, lunch or dinner even when passengers may only have minutes to spare before boarding.”

The service could be a welcome one for travellers with tight connection times that are unable to head to a lounge during their stopover.

Dubai Airports has been introducing a number of initiatives aimed at improving travellers’ experience at Dubai International, such as rolling out a free movie streaming service in August, as well as unlimited free wifi.
