The 1888 Hotel, an independent hotel in Sydney’s Pyrmont district, has been rebranded as Ovolo 1888 Darling Harbour. It is the second hotel in the Australian city for the Hong Kong-based company, which had previously reflagged the Blue Woolloomooloo, a Taj hotel (which started life as the W Sydney).
A former wool storage facility, the Ovolo 1888 is located on the western side of Darling Harbour, close to the city’s Convention Centre and a twenty-minute walk into the Central Business District. The 90 rooms and suites have been refreshed, adding bold multi-coloured murals and other pops of colour in the furniture.
Rooms start at ‘Shoebox’ with a Queen bed, with ‘Stirred’ being the top suite with an outdoor patio. All come with in-room tablets, complimentary Wifi, continental breakfast, minibar and daily happy hour, as well as free local calls and access to a nearby fitness centre.
The hotel’s ground floor, which surrounds a four-story atrium, has been turned into the ‘Lo Lounge’, a ‘sleek multipurpose social area’ that all Ovolo Hotels have in common. There is a conference room called ‘B.I.G.’ (Business is Good) as well as ‘007’, a multipurpose space with its own bar and street entrance.
The rest of Ovolo Hotels’ portfolio consists of a hotel in Melbourne and five hotels and a serviced apartment complex in Hong Kong.
