LAT 56° Holdall

19 Jul 2013 by ScottCarey7
LAT 56° design durable luggage ranging from laptop cases and garment bags (see our review here) to wash bags and glasses cases. I gave the holdall a thorough test run, packing it to the brim with my clothes and toiletries for a weekend away in Devon and my gym gear for lunchtime on Friday. This allowed me to utilise the detachable wet/dry bag to put my dirty gym gear in – it was big enough for my kit, towel and trainers – and leave this zipped up in the bag so it didn’t come into contact with my weekend clothes. The bag was a little small for my liking and certainly feels compact when carrying it. A few extra litres would have been welcome as I don’t feel I could have packed for much more than a long weekend. Structurally the bag is nice and squared off, holding its shape well enough for it to be easily slotted in to an overhead locker, train luggage rack or under your feet. Everything feels very durable and I wouldn’t have a problem throwing the thing in the back of a car or carrying it in the pouring rain, with the D-shaped water resistant zipper certainly looking like it would keep all water out. The zips and dog clips are all metal and feel very heavy duty, and with the number of zips that have broken off in my hand I can appreciate the effort put in to a durable zip. There are two short handles that attach using Velcro, grips on either end and a shoulder strap. The shoulder strap has two sides, one is a rough plastic which grips the shoulder and the other is padded for extra comfort. The bag utilises ultra-lightweight materials and felt nice and light despite the fact I had packed it to the brim. The trademark LAT 56° bobbled black hexagonal design is located on either end, the side panels and the bottom, meaning it won’t slide around on a slippery surface. The rest of the bag is black nylon. The design is masculine and durable but it isn’t the most stylish. There are small mesh pockets at either end for securely storing items such as passports or devices and a larger mesh pocket under the main flap, which is where I would put a book or magazines. VERDICT A highly durable holdall, great for an active weekend away or for regular gym users, especially with the handy wet/dry bag for organising items.
