Serviced Residence Check: V Causeway Bay

1 Jan 2009 by intern22

WHAT’S IT LIKE? V in crowded Causeway Bay is marked by a small, simple entrance along rows of shops and eateries – easy to miss if you are in a hurry. The first of two V properties in the downtown area, it opened in March 2008, promising to deliver three Vs – vibrancy, versatility and vitality – to its occupants.

WHERE IS IT? It sits quietly on Yee Woo Street, near SOGO mall, the World Trade Centre and Times Square. The MTR station is nearby and an abundance of cabs and buses serve the area with good frequency.

HOW MANY ROOMS? 133 units ranging from 26sqm to 148sqm.

ROOM FACILITIES: Our two-bedroom penthouse is modern – the furniture has a cool, chic feel to it and is aesthetically pleasing, and there’s an outdoor roof garden attached. The touches are functional and practical, except for the strange-looking shower tap that took us a while to figure out.

However, everything else is what one would expect of a prime serviced apartment. The expected appliances are available – fridge, DVD players, coffee machine and microwave oven among others. We also managed to connect to the internet effortlessly with a password provided.

The management has not compromised on entertainment either – three Samsung plasma TVs adorn the walls of the living area and two bedrooms, while a waterproof TV is installed in the bathroom. There are 23 cable channels including the National Geographic and ESPN. Also available is a Bang & Olufsen sound system that can be linked up with the waterproof speakers in the roof garden.

V has cleverly added a barbecue stove, a fridge and a sink to turn this area into an alfresco dining area, perfect for hours of lazing around above the buzzing city below.

RESTAURANTS AND BARS: None, but eateries dot the area. The management has thoughtfully provided a list of dining outlets where residents can enjoy discounts.

BUSINESS FACILITIES: None, although our unit can double up as a meeting room with a personal touch.

LEISURE FACILITIES: There’s none, but guests are entitled to free one-year membership at a nearby gym if staying for more than a month.

PRICES: A studio apartment starts from HK$19,500 (US$2,156) per month, up to HK$115,000 (US$14,835) for a penthouse, inclusive of utility bills.

VERDICT: Good location, gorgeously designed apartment and lovely staff.
