Tried & Tested

Rohan Mac

1 Nov 2004 by Tom Otley

Part of a new range of business travel wear from Rohan, this macintosh comes with a number of high claims: namely that it is water-resistant, lightweight and even folds down into a small bag that can be simply stowed in hand luggage.
For testing purposes, Mother Nature supplied ideal conditions ? the wettest 24 hours in New York's history as the tail end of Hurricane Jeanne, fresh from destroying several thousand palm trees in Florida, came up the Eastern Seaboard and camped over New York for 36 hours. The rain was so heavy that the subway flooded, waiting staff mopped around our table on 6th Avenue, and anyone trying to hold onto an umbrella who weighed less than 200 pounds was found in a tree the next morning.
In conditions such as these, when the gusting wind makes it rain upwards, nothing will keep you completely dry, but the Rohan Mac performed remarkably well, and has become a permanent fixture in my travelling wardrobe.
The hi-tech factor is the 100% polyamide fabric with a Permanent Water Repellency (PWR) finish, and the breathable lining ensures lightweight comfort. It folds into its own case, has an adjustable/detachable hood (I detached mine), a back vent, zipped hand pockets, two zipped internal pockets for wallet and travel documents, and a hidden inside security pocket. It comes in two colours ? slate blue or stone ? and small, medium, large or extra large.Price £199. For more information, call 0870 601 2244 or visit www.rohan.co.uk.
