The Oberoi Group has signed a contract with Bengaluru-based SCDCL to manage a forthcoming luxury resort property in the Maldives.
It would be the first Oberoi property in the island country. Following the partnership agreement, Oberoi has petitioned the Indian government for new direct flights be introduced between the Maldives and India to increase traffic to the island, something which is understood to be being negotiated (see news March 1).
“We are extremely pleased to partner and assist SCDCL in the design and management of the proposed luxury resort," said P.R.S. Oberoi, executive chairman, The Oberoi Group.
"We look forward to bringing the Oberoi hospitality to Maldives and the resort will reflect the legendary Oberoi service delivered by an attentive and caring team, making it the preferred choice for luxury travellers."
Oberoi already operates eight international luxury properties in Indonesia, Dubai, Mauritius, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia, and has two more in the pipeline, in Marrakech and Al Zorah.
