Sri Lanka-based Cinnamon Hotels and Resorts plans to open two hotels in India by 2020.

India has been an important market for the chain, and for Sri Lanka in terms of tourism. Rohan Karr, executive vice president of John Keels Holdings (owners of Cinnamon Hotels and Resorts) believes a presence in India will help travellers understand the brand better.

“If people need to believe you, you need to set up a presence and invest in the market either as full time or part-shareholders,” said Karr.

Currently, the hotel group operates 14 properties across Sri Lanka and the Maldives. About 6 per cent of its business is received from the Indian market. Cinnamon Hotels and Resorts is also an important MICE destination for Indian corporates.

The group has also partnered with Sri Lankan airways to offer an all-inclusive fare for two nights/three days at Rs 19,999 (£207).
