Starwood is to open a W Hotels property in Madrid, located in a 19th century building on the city’s Plaza Canalejas.
The 141-room W Madrid will be the second hotel by the brand in Spain, joining the iconic W Barcelona, and is scheduled to open in 2018.
The hotel will be housed within a 19th century building which was formerly home to Hotel Asturias, and which is a stone’s throw from the forthcoming Four Seasons Madrid development (see news March 2013).
Details are fairly limited at present, but the hotel will feature the brand’s signature “Wow” suites, “Wet” outdoor pool deck, “Fit” gym, and the W Living Room, the group’s take on the hotel lobby.
When W Madrid opens in 2018, Spain will become the only country in Europe to boast two W properties.
