German group Maritim Hotels has announced plans to build the tallest hotel in Amsterdam.

The 34-storey Maritim Hotel Amsterdam will be located in the city's Overhoeks neighbourhood. The brand's first hotel in Holland, it is scheduled to open in 2018.

The new-build will contain 579 rooms and suites, including a 340 sqm Presidential Suite; three restaurants — a sushi bar, tapas bar and "international buffet" restaurant; and two bars.

It will also be the largest conference hotel in Holland, with a conference room for up to 4,750 people, and other conference rooms "with the option to host 2,300 delegates and 1,300 delegates". There will be a further 17 small conference rooms and six private business offices.

An entire floor will house a spa, swimming pool, sauna, steam room, gym and a roof terrace.

Maritim said it will operate a 24-hour, free boat shuttle from Amsterdam's main railway station to the hotel.

Mark Spivey, Maritim's director of international sales, said: "The Maritim Hotel Amsterdam will be expertly designed by architect office Team V who have been briefed to create a modern, stylish and sophisticated hotel, suited to one of Europe's key metropoles.

"As the highest hotel in Amsterdam and the largest conference and events hotel in Holland... we are confident the Maritim Hotel Amsterdam will quickly become a distinctive meeting place in the city for both business and leisure guests."

Maritim has 36 hotels in Germany and 14 properties elsewhere in countries including China and Egypt.
