Asiana Airlines has signed a Letter of Intent with Airbus for the purchase of 25 A321neos.
The single aisle aircraft can seat a total of 180 passengers in a two-class configuration, and will contribute to the South Korean carrier’s ongoing fleet modernisation programme.
The range and capacity of the A321neo makes it suitable for the carrier’s regional and domestic services. When delivered, the aircraft will join the existing fleet of A320 Family planes operated by both Asiana, as well as its low-cost subsidiary Air Busan.
“With the A321neo we will be able to look forward to even greater levels of efficiency, with a 20 per cent reduction in fuel consumption and increased flying range. The acquisition of the A321neo underscores our strategy to operate only the most modern and efficient aircraft that the industry has to offer,” said Kim Soo Cheon, president & chief executive, Asiana Airlines.
Along with a fleet of 33 Airbus single aisle aircraft, Asiana’s existing fleet also consists of 15 widebody A330-300s and two A380-800 superjumbos. The carrier has four more A380s and 30 A350 XWBs on order, which it will use on its long-haul network.
