London airspace restricted after computer failure

12 Dec 2014 by GrahamSmith

A computer failure at the UK's air traffic control centre has left passengers facing widespread disruption.

A "technical problem" at Swanwick air traffic control centre in Hampshire caused many flights to be grounded.

Nats, the main air navigation service provider in the UK, said the issue has now been resolved and that service will gradually return to normal.

Both Heathrow and Gatwick have reported delays, while a knock-on effect is being felt at airports around the UK.

Earlier this afternoon, Nats said in a statement that a "technical problem has been reported at Swanwick air traffic control centre".
