Continuing the tradition of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts worldwide, Shanghai Disney Resort has unveiled some information regarding its upcoming development.
As the sixth Disney resort destination worldwide, the centrepiece will undoubtedly be the Shanghai Disneyland theme park, which will comprise of six magical lands. Several of the attractions will be exclusive to this park, including Enchanted Storybook Castle, Treasure Cove and Garden of the Twelve Friends.

In addition to the theme park, the resort will also be home to two Disney hotels. The first is the 420-room Shanghai Disneyland Hotel, an Art Nouveau-inspired property that combines with a touch of Disney magic.
Meanwhile, the 800-room Toy Story Hotel will bring guests into a world inspired by the toys from the popular Disney Pixar series. Expect to see Woody and Buzz patrolling around, eager for photo ops with guests!

An entertainment district will also be located near Shanghai Disneyland as well as the hotels. Known as Disneytown, this area will feature the lure of a timeless village and offer 46,000sqm of dining outlets, shops and a theatre.
As there is no admission fee required, all are welcomed at Disneytown. Highlights include Lakeshore, which provides beautiful sunset views and waterfront dining; Marketplace filled with speciality shops selling Disney merchandise; and Broadway Plaza – home to the Art Deco-styled Walt Disney Grand Theatre, which will host the global premiere of the Mandarin Broadway version of The Lion King.
Shanghai Disney Resort is slated to open in 2016. The RMB25 billion (US$3.66 billion) project is expected to cover 936 acres (378 hectares) – roughly three times the size of the Hong Kong Disneyland Resort.
