Jordanian flag carrier and Oneworld member Royal Jordanian (RJ) announced the cancellation of its services to the Indian subcontinent. The carrier’s Amman-Mumbai service will be terminated from September 10, while its Delhi service will be axed from October 31.
RJ has been bleeding red ink for the past three years.

RJ Chairman of the Board/President and CEO Nasser Lozi said the decision is part of a synchronized plan aimed at turning the airline around and cutting operating costs. RJ has suffered from the aggressive growth of the Gulf competition, as well as increased fuel costs.
Competition on the India – Middle East market is intense. Emirates, for instance, serves Mumbai and Delhi multiple times a day with A380 superjumbos, amongst others.
The carrier is expected to take delivery of its first B787-8 Dreamliner next month as part of its fleet renewal plan. The B787 will serve on the thrice-weekly Amman-Bangkok-Hong Kong route from October.
